Antietam to Pendora Trail

The 560 acre Anteitam lake watershed was purchased for a reservoir and watershed reserve by the City of Reading in the 1870’s. In the 1890’s and early 1900’s, the Mt. Penn Gravity Railroad was in operation primarily in the Rose Creek Valley from Pendora Park through the current Mt. Penn Reserve to what is now the outskirts of the county-owned Antietam lake watershed property.

By using the historic railbed wherever possible, a recreational trail once again links the Antietam lake watershed through Rotary Park, Egleman’s Park, Mineral Spring Park to Pendora Park. We also plan to link this Antietam to Pendora Trail to the Neversink Mountain Preserve with an urban trail connection through Mount Penn.

This trail system will soon be receiving signage and trail guides will be published by the Berks County Conservancy. Check back again soon!
