It’s more than a membership. It’s about taking ownership of where you live, work, and play. It’s about making memories for a lifetime. And it balances today with yesterday and with generations to come. Your membership in the Berks County Conservancy impacts life - from the open spaces, natural resources, wildlife habitats, water quality, mountains, lakes and stream, farms, historical sites, communities, and urban areas - with your help we can preserve your Berks County.
Our members are the voices of our communities. Our programs are a direct reflection of what is important to you - the parent, farmer, student, recreational athlete, outdoor enthusiast, naturalist, business owner, educator, sportsman - any Berks county native, resident or friend - we support your interests.
No doubt, you’ve been faced with at least one of the following issues - A new housing development that adds to traffic congestion during your commute and loss of your favorite scenic view. Zoning changes that control what can be constructed or restricted in your community. Strict controls of your water supply during drought conditions in the summer months. School tax increase due to a growing district population leading to the construction of a new school. Demolition of a historical landmark in your community to make way for new construction.
These are critical issues that relate to our quality of life. The Berks County Conservancy advocates for balance - the delicate balance between protecting that which is important to today and developing that which is important for tomorrow.
We work with landowners to permanently protect land from development, townships and boroughs on zoning issues, developers to promote sensible growth in Berks, and we own and manage thousands of acres. We encourage you to learn about our activities and get involved in your community - you can make a difference.
Our members are recognized in our quarterly newsletter, Conservancy News, and in our annual report. At our Annual Membership Meeting & Dinner each Spring we recognize our members, long-term members, award recipients, and conservation easement donors in the program.
We hold special receptions for donors and, for special projects, such as the sponsorship of a community garden, building project, or property - we offer naming rights and special recognition for our donors.
